Established in 1891 and now a National Historic Landmark, NYBG is 250 acres of landscaped beauty in the middle of the Bronx.
Inspired by a visit to Kew Gardens in London, the founders, Nathaniel and Elizabeth Britton believed New York should have its own garden to advance the publicโs knowledge of plants, be a repository for rare plant species, and lead research in the botanical sciences.
Today NYBG is the largest of its kind in any city in the US. The garden is home to over one million plants and is a global leader in botanical research and education.
