How to request a tree on your street.

There are over 5 million trees throughout the five boroughs. Oddly enough, the Bronx is toward the bottom of the list in terms of amount of trees per square mile

The birds are singing as I sit at our living room window writing this note, listening to Joesef in my headphones (one of my favorite quarantine discoveries), and drinking my morning cup of coffee.

We live at the top of a hill in Riverdale, so our eastern view overlooks much of Kingsbridge below us. I see Broadway- the 1 train seemingly passes through a jungle of concrete every 10 minutes.

I can also see the Moshulu Parkway Greenway, lined with tall trees peeking out among the cityscape. My favorite spruce tree in the neighborhood, standing proudly at 6-stories tall, is prominently within view on Dash Place, just below us.

There are over 5 million trees throughout the five boroughs. Oddly enough, the Bronx is toward the bottom of the list in terms of amount of trees per square mile. Still, from up here, I’ve watched a sea of green springing back to life since the height of winter. The amount of greenery we can see from our apartment is one of the many reasons we love living in the Bronx.

Do you have a lot of trees in your neighborhood?

If you’re looking for a project to help your neighborhood thrive, you can click here request trees to be planted on your street! Geoff and I requested a tree for outside our building when we first moved here. It was planted just a few months after and is still growing and gorgeous! Let’s help make NYC even more green, one tree at a time.
